Fashion Elevator speech...Whats Your Style?

I found myself brushing my pearly whites this morning, imaging what I would say to someone who asked me to explain my style. "How would you describe your style," they say....

How to answer  this is the question? How to make my style make sense to someone else, is it possible? I feel I dress for myself and have strong influences from things I see (movies, magazines, daily observations). I believe in living with eyes wide open at all times, people always interest me and give me ideas on new looks to try or colors to wear. I like classic silhouettes from the 50's and 60's, and I also enjoy the more modern looks as well. How do you describe yourself if you do not fit into any particular style pattern? What if we fit in our own unique style box...?

If I could call my style anything it would be, 'The classic-retro renegade' or better yet Holly-Go-Lightly meets Janis Joplin. I wear what is classic and dainty, with the addition of pieces that stand out and move in the world. I like classic staples and build my closet around pieces that never go out of style. I fill in the gaps with prints, fits and finds that express the person I am and give way to new trends and style must-haves.

There is nothing wrong with the K.I.S.S effect. A great little go-to since middle school, (keep it simple stupid). I like what I like, and can normally wear my purchases season to season or year to year. I feel that this is because when you buy for yourself and not for the "In" thing in the magazines, you buy for life. I am a classic girl with unique touches. I like to spice up a typical look in an un-typical kind of way. I use jewelry, accessories and layers to display personal style and unique wearability while hitting the hot look of the moment.

But if I was to give an elevator speech for my style what would it include. . .
After days of wondering, I have finally come up with a bang bang speech to describe myself.
It goes a little something like this:

"Hello, My name is Jennifer Fernandez. I am a lover of all things fashion fabulous and am constantly looking for style inspiration. I love fashion, because I feel it allows us to "wear our personality on our sleeve" if you will. How we dress says a lot about who we are."

"So how would you describe yourself" (the person would ask)
"I would describe myself as someone who likes to stay trendy without loosing myself in my clothes. I wear my looks, they do not wear me. By this I mean, I wear only what I love, not necessarily what is trending at the moment. I like classic staples with unique touches. I am inspired by the silhouettes of early fashion icons like Audrey Hepburn but love the originality and wearablility of up and coming designers and fashionistas. My looks are often comprised of classic staples with a pop of color or unique addition."

And just like that.... who ever asked the question is hopefully intrigued and satisfied with my answer. So I ask readers.... What is your style? Can it be described? Should it be described? Sometimes who we are is just that... and there are no words or comparisons for what we love... Unique is always in style.

The Fabulous Audrey Hepburn

It seems every time I see an Audrey Hepburn movie or picture, I can not help but let her be my style inspiration for the rest of the week. Many people duplicate her Breakfast at Tiffanys style, but aside from her iconic cocktail dress the movie is loaded with special looks. Today, I am feeling her casual fire escape singing look.

Audrey Hepburn: A Style Icon

Obsessed with Audrey. The grace, style and charm she brought to the movies and clothes she wore were unserpassed by anyone in the 20th and into the 21st century. The philanthropy and love she showed to the people of the world, was just as beautiful as she.

And while I adore her "Ballet" style. I am more envious of  Audrey the women.
